Batchelor Cooking Made Easy
by Michael Patronas

Every modern single guy should know at least the
basics when it comes to cooking. Eating out at
restaurants on a nightly basis can be either too
expensive or too unhealthy (or in some cases, BOTH)
for even the most rugged of single males out there. For
the sake of keeping your waistline trim and wallet fat,
having some basic chops in the kitchen is something
that every guy out there should have in his quiver of
tricks (and fits in right alongside the ability to start a
fire using nothing but 2 sticks and pitching a pup tent).

There are literally thousands of recipes out there that
should prove to be no challenge to the properly
equipped young man. Cookbooks, Internet cooking
sites, and even dear old mom can be great resources of
information and cooking tips for nearly every bachelor
out there.

The first thing any guy wanting to get his hands dirty
and get knowledgeable about preparing his own tasty
culinary treats in the kitchen should know is BE
PREPARED. Just like the motto of the Boy Scouts,
this old adage applies in the kitchen as well as out in the
wilderness. No prepared chef would be caught dead
without at least the following necessary items for the
kitchen: Pots (at least two, one small sauce pot/pan and
one large pot for cooking stews, soups, pasta and
similar high volume dishes), frying pans (at least two,
one large, one small, for cooking up all sorts of fried
items that go well with Monday Night Football),
cooking spoons and/or spatulas (wooden AND metal,
slotted AND non-slotted, for stirring up trouble when
necessary), Tupperware-type containers (for storing
leftovers, of course).

If you are careful to start up with the raw essentials, you
can develop cooking skills at an impressive level (let~s
face it, why do it without being able to impress someone?
Once you decide to get started, remember to start small.
You don~t need to start with some fancy French dish is not
only difficult to pronounce but is also almost impossible
to cook. Start with the simple basics: chili or
hamburgers. Or, add a little variety to your fare, perhaps
chili burgers.

After some time (and maybe a few burned fingers) any male
can zip around the kitchen in style. He~ll impress the
women and start eating well all at once. Don~t try and be
too creative in the beginning; just stick with the recipe.
Soon enough you~ll be inventing your own signature dishes.
Have a great time while you~re learning the ropes and don~t
over use the jalape~o powder.
